You belt one straight down the middle. But it stops about 15 yards before your 3-wood distance. You really need to hit the green with your next shot. Also, you have a bit of a head wind, so keeping the ball low is a must. What do you do next?
One option is hitting a driver off the deck—one of the toughest shots in the game. Not many can hit a driver off the deck successfully.
The driver has little loft, so it’s hard get-ting the ball in the air when not teed up. Hitting it on the upswing doesn’t work either. You’ll just top it.
Below are five keys to this shot:
1. Assume a slightly open stance.
2. Tilt your back shoulder slightly.
3. Keep your feet and legs quiet.
4. Push off with your back foot
5. Finish in balance
Need more tips? Check out our website here.
When you hit driver off the deck, you need to do two things here:
Hit a cut to get the ball in the air and pick the ball clean from the turf.
Assume a slightly open stance. Point your shoulders 15 yards left of the pin. Tilt your back shoulder down slightly. And grip the club loosely. Play the ball off your front heel.
Now take the club back low and slow. Keep your legs and feet quiet, setting up a stable foundation. Concentrate on rotating your torso only. And make a full shoulder turn. Your back should face the target at the top.
Swing across the ball instead of down on it. You want to feel like
you’re pulling your right hand toward your left hip on the way down.
This gives you your cut. It also guards against catching too much turf.
Extend your arms fully through impact. Finish in balance. You should
be facing the target with your body when done. The ball will come out
low and fly left-to-right.
Driver off the deck comes in handy when your 3-wood is not quite
enough. But it’s a tough shot to learn. For practice, try hitting your
driver off hardpan without taking a divot. Hitting driver off the deck
can get you those extra yards when you’re just beyond your 3-wood.

Posture For Longer, More Accurate And Powerful Golf Shots
February 17, 2011 By Jeff Richmond
You may not know this but the posture you have when you setup to hit a golf ball has a big affect on how you will swing the golf club and the potential distance you can hit the golf ball.
You see, the posture you have at setup largely determines how you shift your weight as you swing the golf club and whether or not you can make a big, full turn in your backswing. Also, the posture you setup with will have a big affect on your balance as you’re swinging, and with how much power you can swing down into the golf ball.
So posture is very, very important to your success as a ball striker. But if you need some further convincing read what this pretty good golfer has to say about golf posture:
“You need to be in an athletically ready position so you can respond to movement quickly, smoothly and without losing your balance.” - Quote from Tiger Woods
Click Here For The Golf Swing Speed Challenge
Creating a good setup posture position is very easy to do. But sadly a lot of amateur golfers either a) don’t place enough importance on it, or b) they think their posture is already good enough. This means that many amateur golfers have very bad setup posture positions, which creates a lot of bad golf shots.
But as I have already said, having a good posture position is very easy. So here’s a simple 6 step process to help you get into a good setup posture position.
1st. Stand up straight. Position your feet about shoulder width apart.
2nd. Let the straightness out of your knees so they have a slight bend to them.
3rd. Position a driver along your spine.
4th. Bend forward slightly while making sure that your spine remains straight. Having the golf club on your spine will help you to feel this. When you do this it’s important that you feel as though your backside is moving back like you are going to sit on a chair. Doing this creates a balanced posture position. Also, it’s important that your weight is positioned on the balls of your feet, not on the heels or the toes.
5th. Move your left hip slightly towards your target by about 2 inches. This helps to place your head behind the ball so you can put all your power behind the shot for longer golf drives.
6th. Get the driver from your spine and setup with it as though you are about to hit a golf ball. You may have to either bend over more or stand up straighter to get into a comfortable setup for your driver.
So that’s how to achieve a good posture position that will help you to hit longer, more accurate and powerful golf shots. But if you really want to do that you should do that posture exercise at least 20 times a day for a minimum of 30 days straight. This will help to make that posture position a habit so that when you play golf you just setup automatically with good posture.
If you do that you’ll find yourself hitting much better golf shots, more often. You’ll be amazed at your new found ball striking. So start right now by doing your first 20 and then keep doing them every day for at least 30 days.

Timing The Driver Swing
This video helps players who have problems with their hips lagging through their swing. Bobby (the golf pro in the video) tells me often that if it wasn't for the slice, he'd be out of business. So this is probably one of the biggest issues golfers face in their game.

Iron Play
10 Tips To Improve Your Iron Play
One of the secrets to good iron play is to keep things simple. The number of situations you may encounter may be endless, but the same sound, no frills swing is sufficient to deal with almost all of them. Let's review the fundamental keys to hitting the irons solidly and consistently.
- The longer the iron, the farther forward I position the ball in my stance.
- Sweep the longer irons, hit down on the rest. Trust the club's loft to get the ball airborne.
- Make your back swing with your irons shorter than with the your woods.
- To promote good timing, start down slowly from the top of your backswing.
- The club head strikes the ball first, the turf last. Don't begin to take a divot until the ball has left the club face.
- Try to swing within yourself. On standard shots, never expend than 80 percent of your effort.
- The worse your lie is, the farther back you position your ball in your stance.
- Always tee your ball up on par 3's. You want every advantage you can get.
- The perfect divot is about the same size and shape of a dollar bill.
- If the wind is in your face, consider using the next iron up than when you are in normal conditions.

Wedge Shots
This Wedge System Covers All Distances
Mastering wedge shots in is the key to taking your game to the next level. Wedge shots can make or break a hole. Stick a wedge shot close and you've turned three shots (or more) into two. The challenge is finding a way to cover all the distances you need to cover from 100 yards in with a limited number of wedges. That can be hard. But with the right lofts and the right three-wing system, average players can comfortably cover all the distances they need.
Here are five keys to the three-wedge system:
1. Make sure you have the right lofts
2. Work on three swing lengths
3. Match your swing on both sides
4. Work on maintaining an even tempo
5. Practice. Practice. Practice.
Some players tend to take a full backswing with their wedges and try to control the amount of hit at impact. That's hard to do. If that's you, try this approach instead:
First, make sure the lofts on your wedges are evenly spaced, like 48, 52, and 56. If you have a pitching wedge with 48 degrees of loft and a sand wedge with 58 degrees of loft, there's too much distance between them to use the three-swing system. You'd have to learn too many partial shots.
Second, work on perfecting three swing lengths: half, three-quarter, and full. Include follow-through in this effort and match the swing on both sides. Mirroring your swing allows you to work on perfecting your tempo and still produce different distances without guesswork on the downswing.
Work on hitting shots from the fairway at 15-yard intervals. For example, use a pitching wedge (48 degrees of loft) to hit 75 yards (half-swing), 90 yards (three-quarter swing), and 115 yards (full swing). Do this exercise with your other wedges.
Use the yardage markers on the fairway to help you gauge the distances. Once you've ingrained your swing from different distances, you'll start sticking shots close and improving your golf handicap.

Grip It And Rip It
Why 'Grip It And Rip It' is Dead Wrong
Most people think that gripping the club harder right at the start of the backswing will help them RIP it. It may seem like the obvious answer because it feels like it adds more power to the swing.
But it's actually dead wrong.
In fact, the extra tension that comes from gripping the club harder as you start the backswing actually KILLS SPEED AND ACCURACY. Club head speed it the key to more distance and consistency. Quiet hands on the backswing will enable you to initiate a WIDER SWING ARC and a WIDER SWING ARC is critical to generating more SPEED.
Imagine an old-fashioned record. As it spins, the outside of the disc will spin much faster than the inside. The farther you get from the spindle, or the axis of rotation, the faster the SPEED of the outside edge. The same concept holds true with the golf club. The farther the clubhead is from the axis of rotation - in this case your spine - the faster it will travel. A WIDER SWING ARC is critical to getting more distance.
So what is the correct grip pressure?
Using a scale of 1 to 10 for how tight you grip the club, let me give you a couple rules of thumb for different golf shots:
- Around the green: Grip Pressure = 3
- From the Fairway: Grip Pressure = 4
- Off the Tee: Grip Pressure = 5
A grip pressure of 3 is light but in control. A grip pressure of 4 is firm. A grip pressure of 5 is strong, but not tight. Get the idea?
Anything more than a grip pressure of 5 will result in excess tension. And that will kill you swing speed as well as your accuracy. There's lots of golf information out there. The trick is figuring out who to trust.
One of the best sources I've found comes from a PGA Pro named Eric Jones. Not only that, he played college golf at Stanford, he coached there, and he has a Masters Degree in Sport Psychology. Oh, and you might also like to know he's a World Long Drive Champion.
That's a lot of creds in my book, and everything he's shared with me has been worth its weight in gold. He has a distance program you may want to check out at The 5 Keys To Distance.

How To Break 80

"How To Cut 7 Strokes Off Of Your Game Immediately"
Breaking 80 in golf is easy for the professionals but for the average golfer it is a proud moment to finally accomplish this feat. Watching golf on television and then trying to duplicate it is nearly impossible. After all these guys are the best in the world at what they do. That is why they are paid for playing the sport and you are not. However, do not exasperate yourself over it, the good news is it is possible for just about anyone, even weekend golfers to learn how to break 80.
Golf is a more pleasurable experience when you play well. The problem with most golfers is they practice the wrong things or just don’t practice enough. However, most beginners barely have time to play once a week, let alone spending time at the driving range. Does this sound like you? If so then the key is to maximize your practice time to fit into your schedule. The way to do this is by working on the most important things, the things that will actually help you to break 80 regularly.
One of the most important factors is to manage your shot management. Try and think about your goal for the round before you play it depending on the courses toughness. If you are on a hole that is just killing your score, think about taking a drop instead of hacking away at a ball in the rough. Making smart choices is the first step to cutting strokes off of your game. In fact, most beginners could shave eight strokes by taking this approach.
If you are able to take your practice time and work on techniques that will help you improve your skills instead of trying to kill the ball off the tee, then you will soon see a difference in your final scores. The goal is to enjoy the game of golf. If you don’t you are playing it for the wrong reasons.
There are many golf tuition courses available online, the problem is many of them are too advanced for beginners. Also, to pay a professional for lessons can be quite expensive. You can do it yourself here with our information on our site. Take my advice and learn how to break 80 consistently before you learn more advanced techniques.

Timing The Golf Swing
After you have reached a point where you feel that you have mastered the mechanics of the swing, you should begin to develop a rhythm for swinging. This is generally referred to as timing. Very little is ever written on timing the swing, compared to the fundamentals of the swing, but I feel it will merit your close attention sooner or later.
Learning to time the swing is like learning to dance or play a musical instrument. You have a certain rhythm or "beat" which you must swing into—and so must you when playing golf. Some players have a fast swing tempo, others a slow one; it all depends upon their physical makeup and habit patterns.
By experimenting and trying different speeds, I have developed a set rhythm of swinging the club. I try to maintain this rhythm with every club, trying not to change the tempo of my swing when I change clubs. Naturally, I am swinging faster with certain clubs, say with the long irons and woods, because I take a fuller body turn with these clubs. Thus, the speed of the clubhead increases with the longer-shafted clubs, owing to a fuller clubhead arc, but the tempo of the swing remains the same. This is an important thing to remember at all times.

Chipping From Rough Phil Mickelson
Phil Mickelson explains techniques to chip from the rough.
Secrets To The Short Game
Arnold Palmer has one. Jack Nicklaus has one. And now, Phil Mickelson has one. No, we're not talking about the Masters championships (although Mickelson has three of those), but a golf instruction video. Emmy-winner Terry Jastrow, who produced Palmer's and Nicklaus' own bestselling videos, brings his keen eye to this master class that concentrates on what Mickelson calls "the most important part of the game" (half of all shots played take place inside 50 yards, he states).
Over the course of this nearly two-hour program, Mickelson demonstrates putting, chipping using his advocated "hinge and hold" method, bunker play, and his signature "flop shot." In an entertaining segment, he also demonstrates two specialty shots, a "Two Balls in Bunker" shot (don't try this at home) and the "Backward Over-the-Head" shot. The demonstrations are repeated in slow-motion and seen from a variety of angles.
This program is for the serious golfer, but beginners need not feel too intimidated. Mickelson is a natural in front of the camera and is able to impart a lot of information in a relaxed style that makes even the most advanced concepts accessible. As one golf commentator exults during one of the dramatic highlights clips included as a bonus feature, this is as good as it gets.
Product Description
Phil Mickelson, winner of 34 PGA Tour events, teams with Emmy Award-winning producer-director Terry Jastrow for Secrets of the Short Game, a two-disc DVD focusing on all shots played from 50 yards. "The goal here," says Mickelson, "is to help golfers build a foundation so that their practice time directly correlates to improved scoring on the golf course." The DVD set includes sections on putting, chipping, sand shots, and the flop shot Mickelson popularized soon after he joined the PGA Tour in 1992. Two discs focusing on the short game of golf: Features interactive menus and scene selection. Running Time: 105 minutes.

The Golf Swing Plane
Only the very good players and top pros fully understand and appreciate this concept of the swing, yet it is tremendously important in the over-all development of a repeating swing. The swing plane encompasses both the backswing and the downswing. However, the angle is slightly different going back and up from when it is coming down and through the ball. The backswing plane is determined by your height, your arms, and the distance you stand from the ball at address. Visualize, if you will, a line running from the ball to the top of your shoulders. The pitch, or angle of this line, is the plane along which the backswing operates.
The plane for the downswing is not as steeply inclined, and it projects slightly outward (inside out) through the ball. To insure that you swing up and down on this swing plane, the body, arms, and hand movement must work in perfect harmony throughout the swing. The movements, particularly the first part of the backswing and the start of the downswing, must function smoothly and correctly so that one part of the swing, for example, the arm movements, does not work separately from the body movements. To stay on the backswing plane, simply swing back in a one-piece action as described previously. Getting on the downswing plane is a little more difficult, however. This movement is more difficult to master, which is one of the prime reasons why many golfers suffer the despair of complete frustration when they attempt to move into the downswing correctly. Actually, the golfer changes planes without thinking about it when he initiates the downswing by turning his hips to the left and toward the target. This moves the body to the left and lowers the right shoulder— this latter movement is a potential swing-wrecker if the shoulder is permitted to rush around ahead of the hips. Always remember, the right shoulder works behind and then under your chin, not around and over it.
You can check your swing plane in another way if you have a large mirror. Take a club and swing it to the top of the backswing. If your arms and hands are at a point between your shoulders and head, you are too upright. Conversely, your swing is too flat if your hands and arms are below your shoulder. The desired position is with your hands directly to the right, or behind your right shoulder at the top of the swing, if you are a right-handed player.
The plane helps form what is known as a "grooved swing." By swinging up and down in this slot position, your swing will take on a consistency that will not only give you confidence but will free you of the mental strain and worry about whether your swing will hold up under pressure. It almost has to, for the movements of the body, arms, and hands are performed almost instinctively during the backswing and downswing.
At the risk of getting ahead of myself, and putting the cart before the horse, there is one more important function of the swing that I would like to discuss here very briefly. It concerns developing a rhythm for swinging, sometimes referred to as "timing."

The Swing Exercise
One of the best methods I have found of developing a smooth, consistent swing is an exercise most golfers use when they warm up before playing a round of golf. It is a simple little maneuver designed to train a golfer to ingrain in his swing the use of only his arms and body instead of his hands. Begin by assuming the address position, and make sure that you are comfortable and relaxed. Then, with the upper part of your arms and elbows in close to your chest, turn your body back so that the arms are about belt high. The left shoulder and left arm are highly instrumental in this turning movement, with both the shoulder and the arm forming a pushing-back type of action.
Next thing to do is swing the arms forward until they are about belt high in front of you, making certain that the lower part of the body, the left hip and left leg start the forward swing, as the arms are swung out toward an imaginary target. The right hand also turns over the left hand as the arms are swung forward. Perform this swing back and forth for a few moments, letting your left knee and right elbow become flexed on the backswing and then your right knee and left elbow on the follow-through. You will soon get the feeling that you are swinging with your legs and hips and that your body is swinging the club. This creates the feeling of the one-piece swing that all of the top players have and the one us amateurs are searching for.
Click Here 21 Days To Better Golf - Discover How To Lower Your Score Today.
This swing exercise also gives a feeling that you should have when performing a full swing: that of having your body generating the power and your hands applying it, at the last possible second, with a whip like action of the wrists and hands. If you have entrusted your swing movements to your body and arms, the hands will automatically lash out and whip the club head through the ball with terrific accelerating speed. This is what ultimately creates the power and therefore the distance
The average golfer, however, courts disaster if he becomes too conscious of his hand action through the ball. That is why this swing exercise is so important, because it will teach you every fundamental movement in the swing without too much of a mental effort on your part.If you will practice this swing—the right way—for five or ten minutes a day for six months, you will be surprised at your progress in developing a fundamentally sound swing.
Another reason it is so important to you is that it makes the swing perform automatically. After a while, your swing becomes less and less a conscious effort and your reflexes take over. The great players of today swing almost totally by masterfully controlled reflex actions in which they do their shot planning behind the ball; then they step up and hit it without thinking too much, because they have committed their swing to "muscle memory." In the long run, the closer you can come to making your swing a reflex action, the better player you will become.
My advice in this regard is to make a thorough and search for a swing that is completely natural for you and which embraces the fundamentals. Then stick with it.
